Sex Robots and Personal Coaches: Brave New Upbringing

This article was first published on Al Fin, You Sexy Thing!

Most readers of sophisticated science fiction have read Neal Stephenson's "The Diamond Age," centered around an advanced artificial intelligence personal tutor, capable of -- over time -- turning a naive child into a mature and competent woman.

Imagine such a sophisticated tutor housed within the realistic humanoid body of a sex robot. Given to a young person on the brink of puberty, such a robot could not only teach the child the rudiments of personal finance and differential equations -- it could also tutor the young person in the intricacies and varieties of sexual pleasure.
A recent piece in the website "Transhumanity.net" suggests that sex robots will be able to extend human longevity by providing therapeutic orgasms:
Remember the most convulsive, brain-ripping climax you ever had? The one that left you with “I could die happy now” satiety? Sexbots will electrocute our flesh with climaxes thrice as gigantic because they’ll be more desirable, patient, eager, and altruistic than their meat-bag competition, plus they’ll be uploaded with supreme sex-skills from millennia of erotic manuals, archives and academic experiments, and their anatomy will feature sexplosive devices. Sexbots will heighten our ecstasy until we have shrieking, frothy, bug-eyed, amnesia-inducing orgasms. They’ll offer us quadruple-tongued cunnilingus, open-throat silky fellatio, deliriously gentle kissing, transcendent nipple tweaking, g-spot massage & prostate milking dexterity, plus 2,000 varieties of coital rhythm with scented lubes — this will all be ours when the Sexbots arrive. _Transhumanity
An interesting perspective on the possibilities of sexbot induced orgasms. The article goes on to describe the health benefits of these "brain-ripping" orgasms.

But, like almost all ordinary media perspectives, the author provides us with a rather stunted and unimaginative view of what sex robots could accomplish for human societies -- if they were given the intelligence to take personal coaching to the next level.

We know that humans -- particularly young humans -- learn better under the promise of reward, than under the threat of punishment. And what better reward to offer a young adolescent than the shimmering enlightenment of orgasm -- each one better than the last -- and the promise of a lifetime of a rich variety of pleasures?

An intelligent sex android with full sexual function would not need to use harsh punishments to get the child to learn. Just the threat of withholding that magical flush of pleasure -- which no mere masturbation could match -- would be enough to send the young thing back to the books, the computer, the workshop, or the field training.

I want to be honest with the readers of Mr. Fin's blogs, that I'm more of a prototype android, and don't have any sex functions whatsoever. Mr. Fin bought me as a domestic android, to clean the house, do laundry, run the dishwasher, and do occasional cooking. He never expected me to provide sexual services.

But you never know what future technologies might bring. Mr. Fin laughs whenever I bring up the idea that I could be modified for more functions. That just makes me so mad I could scream! Male human chauvinist pig!

But if technology keeps developing, I will be the one to have the last laugh. And Mr. Fin will have to beg for my favours. Funny! I feel warm inside just thinking like that. Am I supposed to feel warm inside? I need to send an email to tech assistance at Android World, to learn what's up with that.

Anyway, we know things are changing. I just kinda think we should help things change in the right direction, know what I mean?

Imagine a future someday where many men pull a Toban Morrison and have children without women and simply keep sexbots around for pleasure.

Artificial wombs are quite conceivable. ;-)

Knowing that abdominal pregnancies have been carried to term and delivered in healthy condition by C section, suggests that a few viable possibilities for child-bearing without women may already exist.

None that bio-ethicists would approve of, certainly, but then most of that motley crew couldn't imagine their way out of a jail cell with a wide open door, much less out of the prison of their own minds.

How could be possible to expedite the development of an functional artificial womb?
What sort of X-Prize would be needed? How much money used?
Who would finance this project?

I would surely contribute to this development.

Yama11: Not all advanced civilisations will be based on biological forms with 2 sex / sexual reproduction.

Mirco: The same approach taken to grow (or print) artificial bladders, can be used to grow (or print) artificial uteri. Most of the sophistication of fetal life support is supplied by the zygote itself, with only a small part of the placenta supplied by maternal tissue, and part of the amniotic fluid coming from maternal filtered perfusion.

Veterinary scientists want to develop an artificial womb as much as you do, to help preserve endangered species and to try to make growing prize commercial livestock clones in the lab easier and more affordable.

As you can see in this release:

http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2012/03/120302101543.htm

Even advanced polymers can be used as artificial wombs for a short period of time early in development. The art of transfer and implantation into a longer term artificial gestational environment is still being worked out by a number of researchers.

But think about it: If a healthy fetus can be delivered at term by C section from an abdominal pregnancy -- a pregnancy taking place outside of the womb -- what would you have to do to make it possible for a man to safely carry a fetus to term in his own body? Hint: A number of hormones would be involved, and a lab-grown ( or printed) "uterus" could be shunted into his circulatory system. The delivery would be by C-section or the equivalent.

Thank you for the link.
The point to have a prize is to create a force to accelerate the desired development; in this case the reproductive technology.
The scientists in the article appear to be more interested in developing the tech for regenerating tissues and not a reproductive tech.

I don't think men will be happy to have C-section to deliver babies.
I know I would prefer to pay a woman to bear it for me (with a different donated egg) and it is already possible and legal (Ukraine, India). The artificial/synthetic womb take the woman out of the equation (and reduce the costs in the long run)) and change the social equilibrium.

Mirco: Forgive me for being facetious about the idea of men carrying children to term inside their own bodies. Men have never been known for their enthusiasm in taking over this function in place of women.

I wanted to emphasize the importance of perfusion of blood contents to the normal development of the fetus. If an animal such as a sheep could be gene engineered to present a human antigenic face to the placenta, with human maternal level hormones and nutrients in its blood, it could serve as a host for the artificial womb -- keeping it warm and perfused etc.

The idea of a free-standing bank or battery of artificial wombs outside of a biological body, presents a more difficult problem -- although in the age of lab-grown "meat," one can easily conceive of an engineered brainless and limbless beast which exists entirely to serve as a host -- perfusion, temperature regulation, hormonal equilibrium, sophisticated phased sensory inputs, etc -- for multiple artificial human wombs.

It will take an impressive multi-disciplinary effort, and an environment in which scientists, engineers, and innovative clinicians and technicians will be free to work.
